Basic Maintenance Workshops

Next Workshop: Saturday, November 22nd from 2:00pm-4:00pm

Are you an owner of a Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ, or Toyota 86/GR86 and want to learn more about how to work on your car? Come to one of our basic maintenance workshops! Club members will walk you through how to do the following basic tasks so you can start to learn to maintain your car yourself.

  • Basic Tire Maintenance: check tire tread depth, check tire air pressure, deflate/inflate tires

  • Basic Engine/Consumable Maintenance: check engine oil level, add oil, replace engine/cabin air filters, replace windshield wiper blades

  • Intermediate Maintenance: check brake pad wear, changing wheel/tire, replace or swap light bulbs

  • Discussions & Walkthroughs (concepts only):

    • Oil Changes

    • Brake Fluid/Pad/Rotor Replacement

    • Alignments/Suspension Tuning/Wheel & Tire Fitment & more

Overview:

Simply bring your vehicle to the workshop location and ask a host what you’d like to learn about. This is structured to be casual and relaxed so there is no formal process or agenda. We will go over as much as we can as time & attendance allows. We recommend that you bring the following basic items:

  • Tire Pressure Gauge

  • Tire Tread Depth Gauge

  • Air Compressor

  • Metric Wrenches and Sockets

  • Paper Towels and/or Gloves

  • Air Filters, Wiper Blades & Replacement Bulbs if you’d like to replace any of those items

FAQs

Will I actually do basic maintenance?

Yes! This is a hands-on activity where we will actually do basic tasks. If time/conditions allow and the proper tools are present, we are happy to attempt to do basic maintenance items. More involved procedures (e.g. oil changes, brake fluid/pad/rotor replacement, etc.) we can only discuss conceptually but we are happy to answer any and all questions we can!

What do I need to bring?

Yourself, your car, any applicable tools or items, and an open mind. This is open to all levels of knowledge. We are here to teach and help our fellow club members learn. Everyone is to treat each other with respect, regardless of prior experience or skill. We cannot guarantee we will have any tools you may need, so come as prepared as possible. Contact Us if you have questions.

I’m coming with a broken car/my car has complex issues. Will I be able to fix it at this event?

No, this is not a repair opportunity. We are not qualified to diagnose or make repairs in any official capacity. This is an orientation that we hope will allow you to make better repair or maintenance decisions.
